National campaign wins national award

Thu, 29 Oct 2009

Mills Wilson has been recognised at the Public Relations Institute of Australia’s Golden Target Awards for its national campaign to support the consecration of Australia’s first female bishop – the Right Reverend Kay Goldsworthy.

Principal Kate Wilson’s campaign was Highly Commended in the Special Events or Observance category which recognises programs embracing openings, celebrations, commemorations or created events aimed at local, state, national or international communities.

“The consecration of Kay Goldsworthy was an event of national and international significance,” said Kate Wilson.

“We were keen to ensure that the event was properly recognised and celebrated.”

“Our goal was to capture the excitement and historic nature of the event, while honouring its importance and managing it in a way that respected its deeply spiritual and religious nature,” she said.

“There was always going to be enormous media coverage, but our challenge was to manage the campaign in a way that encouraged and facilitated the right kind of coverage in the right publications.”

The coverage exceeded all expectation and reflected well on the Anglican Church. St George’s Cathedral was filled to overflowing with a wide variety of religious and civic leaders and members of the Anglican community. Reaction to the event was overwhelmingly positive – it was a real community celebration.
